MEETINGS/CONFERENCES OF INTEREST IN SAN DIEGO COMMUNITY RELATED TO CARDIOVASCULAR RESEARCH.
CARDIOVASCULAR RESEARCH CONFERENCE. Friday mornings 8am-9am, usually in Center for Molecular Genetics (CMG) conference room. This is a conference intended to bring basic scientists and medical students/fellows together to discuss topics of relevance to cardiovascular development and disease. Please contact Pam Alford (palford@ucsd.edu) to be included on mailing list for notification of upcoming speakers.
COMPARATIVE PATHOLOGY GROUP MINISYMPOSIA. These symposia are held quarterly. Please contact Dr. Diane Shelton for more information (gshelton@ucsd.edu)
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA STEM CELL CONSORTIUM. 2nd Thursday morning of each month 9:30am-11:00 am in the Fishman Auditorium at the Burnham Institute (and get this, coffee, juice, pastries provided). Interactive and informal sessions on subjects intersecting with stem cell biology. Please contact Jonathan Clarke (jclarke@burnham.org) for more information.
THE ACTIN CLUB. A cell biology conference which brings together groups from UCSD, Scripps, and the Burnham Institute to discuss the cytoskeleton and related matters. The group meets once a month, at the beginning of the month, with the location changing between the three institutions. Please contact Tama Hasson for more information: tama@ucsd.edu
ADDITIONAL GENERAL PROGRAM ACTIVITIES. There are also numerous seminar series relating to biochemical and genetic mechanisms controling cell and molecular biology, many of which are directly applicable to cardiovascular, muscle, and organ development and disease. The Molecular Pathology Seminar Series is a monthly forum where program faculty from UCSD and institutional affiliates present their lastest laboratory results. Following the talk, students can chat with the seminar speeker over pizza, cookies, chips, and cheeze. The Burnham Institute Seminar Series is a weekly multidisciplinary research series that brings in nationally- and internationally-recognized speakers focused on questions in molecular and cellular biology related to human disease. At UCSD, the Cellular and Molecular Medicine Seminar Series maintains a somewhat broader focus on cellular and molecular biology. The Pathology Minisymposium Series focuses specifically on molecular mechanisms of human disease that can be studied and treated using small animal models.
The program also holds an Annual Spring Research Symposium at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, where students present their work, discuss their ideas and hypotheses, and engage in some friendly scientific debate.
