Research Summary

The three major areas of research activity of my laboratory group include: 1) Cybernetic systems which examine the specific mechanisms utilized by the tubuloglomerular feedback system within the kidney which involves expression of brain NOS in macula densa cells and other adaptive mechanisms.

2) The regulation of cellular growth filtration and reabsorption early in the process of experimental diabetes which involves a variety of enzymatic transport physiologic studies including molecular expression of transcriptional and translational factors.

3) The regulation of cell proliferation and inflammation by arginine metabolites which includes the inter-regulation of major arginine enzymatic pathways which are critical to cell inflammation synthesis of polyamines via ornithine decarboxylase and synthesis of extracellular matrix via OAT.

4) The regulation of oxygen consumption in the kidney by neurohumoral agents; NO, angiotensin II, and the newly defined NMDA receptor.
